Gnome Poem by Emmanuel Stone

Gnome

I breathed before me
and there stood
a person barely knee high.
'Who are you? ' say I

I am a gnome
who cares not for this world
nor for the next
now come dance with me
beneath the moon.

So together we danced
for the night is short
and we laughed at its beauty
and in the morning I went home
and so did the little gnome
and I sat upon my doorstep
and fell asleep.

The dreams I had that day
woke me, well and true
and I cared not for this world
and I cared not for the next
so now I'll dance beneath the moon
until the kingdom come.
