Gloom Poem by David Harris

Gloom

The sky is dull and full of clouds
a sign of pending rain.
However it never comes,
but the gloom hangs over you
on these very grey days
with no hint of joy and laughter
that comes with the sun.

The overwhelming feeling of tiredness
sweeps over you within the gloom.
You fight to stay awake
fearing you will not sleep at night.
Slowly it captures you to rest.
Lying down for a few minutes
turns into hours.

Finally you awake in darkness
wondering where the day has gone.
Then you realize just what you’ve done.
You’ve slept through the waking hours
in dreamland a million miles away
where the sun always shines.

You are now wide awake
hoping when you go to bed
you will enjoy a goodnight sleep.
That when you wake up in the morning
the sun will have wakened its sleepy head.
With that in mind you smile
catching up on things you meant to do.
