Glass Hearts Poem by Inexperienced Poet

Glass Hearts

Hearts. Hearts everywhere
Hearts like glass born translucent
Glass hearts become like stained glass
Soaking up colors and hues through intimacy with other hearts

Hearts of lovers glow scarlet with passion
Hearts of friends shine blue with cheer
Hearts of enemies gleam black with hatred
Hearts of a new couple pulse pink with excitement and wonder
Hearts of the heartbroken throb a bruised purple

Hearts. Hearts everywhere
Hearts like glass born smooth and unblemished
Hearts grow textures through intimacy with other hearts

Hearts of lovers acquire a silky texture
Hearts of friends acquire a soft texture
Hearts of enemies acquire a hard rocky texture
Hearts of a new couple acquire a fluffy texture
Hearts of the heartbroken shatter into pointed shards

My own heart remains translucent and unblemished
Protected from heartache and heartbreak
Cool detachment serves as my heart's shield
Searing sarcasm serves as my heart's sword
Guarding it from would-be raiders
I try to lay down my weapons but find them glued to my hands
Someone disarm me.
