Girls Night Out: Beauty Queen

It was Saturday night
Girls getting dolled up right
Ready to hit the town

Each strand of hair in place
Rived up for the race
Vodka stained lips now

It always begins the same
Girls in heels, hand in hand
Promises in the moon light

Then one by one we stray
Ignorant of time and day
Each of us on the prowl

Beauty queens

Left with a lonely few
Getting lonely for you
We make our way to the stage

Putting on a public show
Dancing while our bodies glow
Pretty in the spotlight
When suddenly my phone shines bright:

Hey beauty, my beauty queen
I’ve been watching you from across the room
Loving every way that you move
Hey beauty, my beauty queen
Been watching you dance under bar lights
Young beauty queen

I see him across the crowd
My heart’s desire beats loud
Hiding in the beat of the music

Watching him, watching me
I sway my hips slowly
He pulls me close now

Body heat rising high
The chemical of you and I
Clouds my head fast

The hope runs deep
That tonight we could keep
A love in the neon light

Beauty queen

Exchanging whispers for a time
I thought maybe you could be mine
In this small town life

But the moment left fast
I knew it couldn’t last
We just do what we always do
& I read the faded words again

Beauty queen

You and I are young
I liked my name on your tongue
That is all I know

Next Saturday again we’ll play
And do it once more our way
The way of rock n’ roll

Nights always on the run
I see the rising sun
And the girls came skipping home

Giddy laughter in early hours
Stories of our golden powers
And love on the dance floor

Beauty queens

We hold the key
We run wild and free
Not showing the world our minds

We own the darkness of night
It is we who fight
For a freedom without you
Cause you always say

Hey Beauty Queen

Very nice. Well captured. But beauty queens will only last so long

A nice hope. A good poem.
