Genietail 08 Smarting Poem by Stewart McKenzie

Genietail 08 Smarting

If genes can regret they may yet
Their invention of human intelligence
As human tools change the world
Too fast for genes to adapt
As human medicine shields genetic weakness
From natural selection
As the most advanced human societies
Have fewest children
As human machines rival genes
As the source of information
As human biologists
Change the genes themselves
Power is passing to the generations
Who think only in lifetimes
If that
