Fugitive Equation Poem by Ananta Madhavan

Fugitive Equation

In the Algebran Civil War
He found himself between
a-squared and b-squared.

Dodging behind the lines,
He tried to pass himself off as
2ab.

Ejected summarily to
The other side of the equation,
He had to choose.

Bewildered and bemused,
Switching sides and safe brackets,
He quit Algebra.

It is no longer 'us' versus 'them',
We are all 'them'.
Our 'us-ness' is gone.

Curious how certain events of recent history seem to be replayed in different contexts by other folks and peoples. AM
