Frustrating Truth Poem by Claudine Riel

Frustrating Truth

Rating: 5.0

Is it true what they say?
“To get respect, you have to earn it! ”

In the meantime, minds are used & abused for games, still
Fists are raised to get respect or for power
While women are searching for their lives fulfilment
Self-esteem and self-respect are lost, as fear takes over

Although, if he raises his fist once, it’s “his” fault,
If he raises his fist a second time, it’s “your” fault
If you stick around for the third strike
Just pack your bag like you’re going on a hike

Free trips to the Yankee’s Stadium as the guest of honour
With a Grand soiree at the Grammy
A nominee for best impersonator
Only to be in the ball category

Brothers, will use their heads for sex
Brothers, will use their hands for power
Brothers, will use their minds for control and games
Brothers, will use their “boyz” any day, to get back at a stranger

A Black Man, will use his head for power
A Black Man, will use his hands to protect you
A Black Man, will use his mind to make love to you
A BlackMan, will help and be there for his friend forever

A Sister, will use her head to plot on her baby’s daddy
A Sister, will use her hands to get your attention
A Sister, will use her mind to get her next diamond or dime
A Sister, will use her girl to get closer to her man

A Black Woman will use her head and get a job
A Black Woman, will use her hands to get creative
A Black Woman, will use her mind to love you,
A Black Woman, will teach her child about unselfishness
Through her friendship!

Children are used for threats and crutches
Children are used for excuses
Children are used for puns
Children are used just to be rejected

Children should be protected & loved
Children should make you strive for more
Children should be your excuses for strength
Children should build a stronger bond between you two

Brothers & Sisters from the East
Brothers & Sisters from the West
Brothers & Sisters from the North
Brothers & Sisters from the South

Are you willing to make that change, and break the cycle?
Or are you just going to keep passing it on
to our new generation in your own families?
Open your eyes, think, pay attention!
Can you see? Can you really see?

Me?
To quick for mind games
To proud to get your next dime
To many values & respect to plot
To much love to give to use relationship

I’m a Black Woman with strength!

Good for you for speaking out. As in all races, there are misguided people who have to be shown the right way. And you did a superb job. There is strength in righteousness. Stay strong.
