From Paintings To Stories- 'The Mirror Of Venus' (Ballet)

Goddess of beauty, Goddess of love
Princess of Olympia, watches from above
Below the shed of her golden hair
A face so sweet and fair
Yet her mind was above the clouds somewhere
Conscious about what Athena said,
"Venus is shallow, Venus is vain,
A hollow heart behind her fine face
Not one charity to the mortals would she make"

"Venus is beauty, Venus is love
Graceful goddess shant be undermined
An elegant prove I shall find
To reveal what Aphrodite truly defines"
Glancing down over her delicate and dreamy cuffs
Nine ladies preyed upon Venus for a taste of love
"Why could mortals be so discontent? " She thought
"Except entertaining is not in my area of profession"
"Though…this would seal the loving nature of Venus
For the goddess who ceases maidens' nostalgic sighing puffs"
Invitation to Olympia she sent with nine doves
And when all nine maidens arrived she asked,
"I shall bless you each with a wish
I can grant you beauty, or even a baby,
I can make the man of your dreams
To give you the most passionate love of all kind
Yet one choice is chosen, and one is done."

Firstly there was lady of Cydonia
Her mind was set on the man she loved
Then there was the wife of Ardea
Who had longed for a son
Maiden of Latium, girl of Troy
Had never encountered the meaning of love
When the eight maidens were busy with their thoughts
The servant of Lavinium spoke her mind
"Gracious Goddess, Gracious love
I sincerely wish
To be as pretty as you

"Very well" Venus replied
She flicker her fingers gently
Pouring glitters on the glowing servant
Others remain silent
Watch with wide eyes of wonders
Moment when the glitters fall
The servant was no servant anymore
As refined as the goddess
Elegant and tall
What other maidens had in mind they did not recall
All they wish for now
Is the fairy's face they saw

On the third morning
Venus was woken by the golden ray of Apollo
She called upon the nine maidens
To join her for a day

Ten fair maidens carrying the same face,
Walking through the Mount of Kronos's rocky way
"Are you now content? Thy dreams now fulfilled?
Tell me how thee feels" Asked Venus

"Gracious Venus Gracious god, " spoke the servant of Lavinium
"O people love me, sure they do
But not my ma'am I work for, she objects
"Could that pretty face earn your bread" she said
But I know she was only jealous"

"Fair" Venus thought

"Gracious Venus, Gracious Goddess of love"
Spoke the lady of Colonius
"No differences were encountered,
And no sign of love
Has the glitters done enough? "

"Contempt! " Venus thought

"Gracious Venus, Gracious goddess of love"
Spoke the wife of Ardea
"When I headed back my lord denied
Who I truly am he did not realize
Oh princess tell me, does my destiny incline
Would I be lonely in my remaining life? "

"Discontent mortals, ungracious be
Till we come forth to a mirror
When thee would know
What a trick of wonder I've done on you"

Fair company of ten, come upon a lily pond
Where Venus asks the other nine to observe
"Upon the figures of thyself
Let the imperfections be unfold
In the beauty and sweetness thee behold"

"Goddess thy majesty, Goddess thy love
For your beauty so high above
One could only admire, one could only sigh
How peacocks have plenty
But only one form of beauty may dwell
To become the golden phoenix
Cutting through the endless sky
Where peacocks could only dream to fly"

"Goddess thy majesty, Goddess thy love
Once I had an identity
Once I was in love
But since my forehead was blessed with thy palm
I was no longer the wife of Ardea
As if my soul has left for loyalty
Along with the dismal body I once claimed
I wish I'd never had this empty shell
To distort the wealthy heart I owned"

"Goddess thy majesty, Goddess thy love
Thy charitable sweetness on my house of soul
Would only be glimpsed upon in Colonius
No sign of worship, No sign of love
One would begin to wonder
What is love about?
Maybe it's not how one looks
Maybe it's not how one cooks
Maybe it's thy status
Maybe it's trust
Only thy highness would know"

"Goddess thy majesty, Goddess thy love
My words are contempt, yet allow me
Lady of Latium has her locks form better
For a fine match to thy gracious face
O only if I had the ability
Like thy gracious goddess of beauty
Who, without a doubt has the aptitude to mend"

"Goddess thy majesty, Goddess thy love
My thoughts too are contempt, yet allow me
Time passes like a clear stream thus flow
Ever flowing, unforgiving
As the marbles down the bed it passes
The marble stumbles
The marble wears
Till one day the smooth surface cracks and tears
O if only the youth remains
Like thy gracious goddess of beauty
Who, sparkles eternally above"

"Goddess thy majesty, Goddess thy love
Fairness in thy blessings no one could deny
Yet the beauty in me I just realized
Boarder of love and lust I redefine
Inner beauty I should dignify
Since this mask was put in place
My inner self was trapped in pride
Living up to an image or for oneself is hard to decide
Now I struggle between this pretty face and me"

"Goddess my lady, Goddess indeed
Apart from life eternal
I see no difference between you and me
Fairest in heaven, fairest thee may be
Yet what do you know about mortals?
What hard life thee live?
If all the treasures thee behold
Why consider foolish beings like thee so? "

"Goddess thy majesty, Goddess thy love
Call me shallow, call me naïve
What we are searching for I cannot see
Prettiness was what I asked for
That I agree
Yet life is more than appearance
That is what I see
I have a home to maintain
I have a child to feed
If there is no more for today
I wish to excuse myself and leave"

"Goddess thy majesty, Goddess thy love
I agree with this lady here
I see nothing to grieve
To cease my concerns
There are life matters to heal
A sicken mother in bed waiting for me
So merci from you my princess I seek
Is there a blessing for her I could receive? "

Aphrodite the goddess
Stood silently with her thoughts
Wondering how she could not see
Tender hearts of nine
Not one was satisfied

"Could mortals ever be happy?
Discontent and haughty mortals be
How beauty in thy youth they could not see
How they have fulfilled their wishes they did not record
Ever insatiable
Ever looking at another field green
Since when did I have the power
To fulfill the ever discontent children of Eve's?
Yet mortals are delicate
Yet mortals are discrete
With one form of beauty
Each one has a distinct thought
Only not one of them I contented

Beauty is delicate, Beauty is complex
Like a lotus from dirty filthy mud
One day these maiden might realize
How only the art of life and hardship
Could gestate beauty of all forms
And only this form of beauty dwells
In eternity till Apollo's beams faint and dim

On the clouds above Olympia
Cupid goes forth Venus with rays of set
With a sweet call for Aphrodite
Venus awoke
"Princess thy highness, Princess thy love
What brought sorrow to thy eyes
Blue thoughts to thy mind? "
Concerned Cupid
"Sweet Cupid thee would not believe
What an obscure dream I came across"
Venus muttered

"O Aphrodite thy love thy tender heart
Read the wisdom hidden in thy dream"
Said the passing Athena of wisdom
"The nine maidens taking thy form
Represents the nine selves of Venus
Represents the nine forms of love
Blindness towards one's own beauty
Needless me explain
Admiring, envy, doubting, and avaricious
Ever content, Needs never ceased
Lovingness to the others, child and mother
And above all the one element stands tall
The realization watches clear from above
Rationally finding the true meaning of love"
