Friendly Fire Poem by robert dickerson

Friendly Fire

May your veins be drained of the gods' love
May an owl of contention hunch in your soul
May you ride an elevator to nowhere, all
Day long, up and down without a goal
May the nucleus of laughter
Wither in your brain and leave you stern
To your hearts' crossroad may orphans come
Wailing, never knowing where to turn
May the ones you desire flee you-
Fast, in embarrassed haste
May short-term memory escape
With your teeth and your vaunted taste
May what you think and what you say
Never quite ride the same track
May your gifts of irony be lost
Never, ever to come back

For fantasy and Truth in you
From time to time collide
Your thinking and Reality
Sometimes co-incide
Sympathy with Need in you
Far too frequently abide.
