Free Will Poem by Noreen Carden

Free Will

Rating: 4.0

Free will is an addict
dependent on time and place.
It cant bloom where
bellies are empty.
It fails to thrive
surrounded by fear.
It cannot win when
rule is by the rod.
It lies broken and bloody
in a world where fashion
is our only God.
We are the sheep
who believe
we have free will.
While Gods indulgent smile
shows his rule is all there is

You present four examples that contradict the notion of free will, and I am persuaded of your thesis it's an addict's dream, not a reality. But at the very end you portray God with an INDULGENT SMILE. I'm not sure I know what that smile means. I hope it's not ironic, like Puck saying, O WHAT FOOLS THESE MORTAL BE! A creator god has no right to say that about creatures he made as LIMITED BEINGS. Can you give me some insight into the tone and/or meaning of God's smile? ? Does HIS RULE IS ALL THERE IS mean God is micro-managing the universe? ? Your poem caught me in a feisty, questioning mind frame! !

All is is and in that we flow regardless of what we do or know! I know your heart and love it!
