Fragile Laughter Poem by Arnie Hicks

Fragile Laughter

the days of fragile laughter
and carefully cultivated elegance are upon us;
step lightly lest the luster pale
revealing the languid exuberance of our decline;
no sympathy for error in judgement or in form
where caprice is thought tantamount to treason.
beware the judas kiss
in this troubled time of untenable constants and illuminated idiocy;
beneath that halcyon charm
lies the hideous depravity that marks the flawed logic of numbed minds;
somewhere on the journey we substituted pride for acceptance
and sacrificed the courage to dream of angels.
