Four-Leaf Poem by Tiffany Rose Moczydlowski

Four-Leaf

This jade-clad subject of Celtic lore
Is surrounded by misconception.
Marked a misfit by
Its seldom-found form,
A natural mutation.
Ostracized it is never,
Instead always cherished
And sought out for generations.

It slips to and fro
Delighting in its subtle game,
Cleverly hiding in the open
Among its amused brethren.
Oft-times winning,
It gaily becomes a rarity.

Stumbling across it or
Determinedly picking through patches
Provides some joys, some chuckles
To critters and humans alike,
Now with this clover matching
Its dainty body luck.

This association is taken simply
By most minds to mean
That keeping it close at hand
Will provide luck at ones' need.

But is this fable quite so true?
Do these clovers summon luck?
Or is it really the searcher
Whose discovery unveils
The fact that it in their sleeves
They discreetly tuck?
Does it cause your luck...
Or simply truly prove it?

The four leaf clover is a well sought after little shrubbery of a sort. We had a patch of this group of plants in our back yard. There was a lot of Celtic lore in acquiring this tiny plant. From my many observations there seemed to be very few of them. I also found out that the well sought after four leaf clover had one of its leaves hidden beneath a three leaf clover. Just thought I migh make mention of this . An inspiring write.
