Forever Into Sand Poem by Char Pattrick

Forever Into Sand

Rating: 5.0

In the dim glow of a candle
I discovered an unused key
The lock I've owned for years and years
Guarded by my own decree

I barely glanced upon the silver
Yet my heart was filled with joy
The rusting lock could now be opened
This metal noose no more a toy

But still, my mind, it raced in fear
For just one person baring this key
And if the wrong shall try their hands
I'd prove to bruise most easily

I've been sure to tuck the key away
Unopened, now, it must be kept
And yet, it seems, a part of me
Has been left feeling inept

I'm saddened by the fact that now
The key will dust, it’s so forgotten
The lock awaits so patiently
In it's solitude so rotten

One day, I know, a person will come
The key to my heart in their hand
And soon my lock and key will fade
Forever into the sand
