Forensics Poem by Martin O'Neill

Forensics

Rating: 4.5

' And now we hand over to Jenny on the island of Jersey where allegations of child abuse at a former children's home are being investigated by the local police who have reported finding

Bones
Small bones
Burnt bones
Hidden bones
Like a nucleus circled by
Lab coats
Blue uniforms
Crime scene tape
And cameras
Sending the news to
Wide eyes
Racing heart
Knot of fear
Waiting for
Developments
Tasting a fraction of
The fear
They once caused
Enjoyed
Well, enjoy this.
The investigation
Continues.
Thank you Jenny,
Meanwhile, on the stock exchanges today....'

Cor! ! This caught me off guard and swung me round on my nose. I read another forensic write yesterday and they are both so different. I remember vaguely the incident you write of (couldn't bear to follow myself, ostrich scenario) but you caught the atmosphere, vibe, rubber necking (so to speak) of the perpetrators. You incorporated the plods, investigators and finally (your finest mo, so far) you put it in a news report which matter of fact skips to the stock exchange, rather coldly they do that on the news... If I sound inspired by this one (it's because I am) bravo! !

Wow, this is the real stuff. I've unearthed some original stuff; thank god it wasn't already buried by time.

I can't believe it. You've done it again. This one is brilliant.
