For The Flag Of A Nation Poem by Francis Duggan

For The Flag Of A Nation

For the flag of a Nation i never would die
For I'm not patriotic of that i won't lie
The battles of life for me are hard enough
And believe me at times i do find the going tough.

The fight for survival i fight every day
And life is a battle i see it that way
And the battle of life is war enough for me
The struggle to rise just above poverty.

Why should one wish to shoot to kill at one they do not know
And how can one that you've never met become your hated foe?
For flag and for Country so many have died
And their blood is the price for our National pride.

The flag of a Nation i never did wave
And to fight in a war i was never that brave
But from war we've not learned that seems sad to say
As more people are dying in war zones every day.

My better days in life one might say long gone
And my battle it is just to keep keeping on
And i find it a struggle the struggle to live
And for the flag of a Nation my life i would not give.
