(for Dónall) At Last, The Man I Had Not Met Poem by Janice Windle

(for Dónall) At Last, The Man I Had Not Met

Rating: 5.0

His chin,
cleft with Y-shaped hollow
like the subtle dent
where buttocks meet with spine.

His mouth, mobile,
made for words as well as kisses.
Lips, asymmetric, tell of humour,
kindly irony and playful thought.
A mouth on which to graze
in the still night
and the lazy morning
as he will feast on mine.

Nose, proudly aquiline.
Nostrils that can snuff the wind
like any stallion. Eyes
alight with understanding,
seeing who I am,
catching fire from my hot ashes,
seeing in me his ideal,
knowing that he’s mine.

This poem is a companion to 'The Man I Haven't Met' which I wrote six months ago. I've revised it a bit to fit the reality of the man I've met and love, but I've had to make remarkably few changes to the original....

COMMENTS OF THE POEM

....'the reality of the man I've met and love'. Jan, you make my heart sing, and this is the most beautiful of pieces. And methinks entirely accurate. Hugs, t x

Lucky him really :) women poetess are more often sparing of description of their lovers, except the lesbian poetess like Sappho maybe. You get in the details and paint, yes, you paint a portrait of words, with a lot of light and love. Wonderful Portrait of the man as a loved one, Jan!

A very lucky man. What feelings your words engender! What happiness your words disclose. I'm very happy for you.

Oh lucky man! Oh lucky him...to be thus known and known thus... in love. Now I know you hoped and I know you wished but...there ain't nothing like the real thing. This man is made beautiful by being adorned with your love...he(obviously) wears your love...like Heaven. Like Heaven! Happy lady...lovely lady...may love smile on you and you two. Wear his kisses like a beautiful jewelery...dress only in the caresses of his devotion. love Donall Donall
