For Clayton Jo-Ann Of Regina Poem by indira babbellapati

For Clayton Jo-Ann Of Regina

When distance
Dissolved in the warmth
Of your hug
I read our histories
in our palms

Your ancestors
Dared to struggle
Against the seas
Snows and man,
The epidemic
Man, who scattered
His seed as he pleased

My ancestors
struggled against
The tropical forests
The invaders...

Human against terrain
Human against human

Don't we still struggle?

We draw our sustenance
From each other's struggle

That's our bond
That's our connect
