Footprints On The Beach Poem by Diane Meyer

Footprints On The Beach

The light reflects on the water
pink tinted clouds look down at you.
Light orange sky meets blue ocean
where the horizon rejoices in the new day.

Soft sand tickles your toes
Hair whips your face.
Rolling blue waves go on forever,
crashing beyond the shore

Shade your eyes,
squint until you can see no further.
Look out as the new day dawns,
where the sun begins to brighten.

A figure standing on the beach
your presence is unknown,
as nature continues
underneath you,
around you,
above you.
A dark silhouette against the shining glory
of early morning.

But you have to leave,
the day has begun.
You step away though your heart does not.
Even when you are gone,
it remains in the vastness of the sea,
your footprints on the beach.
