Flying To Freedom Poem by Hazel Durham

Flying To Freedom

Rating: 5.0

He dances like he is king as he sings along to the beat in the opulent room,
Flicking his black hair back, his brown eyes holding laughter and doom,
The Christmas party is rocking with the sound of boom, boom,
Of pop music playing so loud,

Loose talk, cheers is heard amongst the exuberance of the crowd,
Girls wear every colour of the rainbow,
With their false eyelashes, smudged lipstick their eyes full of yearning
For true love they dance sexily just for show,

Marty flirts with ease as he chats up the prettiest females,
The other men observe with egos now frail,
Drinks spill as Marty struts around as the girls swoon,
He glances at them with his brown, laughing eyes,

Like the stars light up dark skies,
Marty tells with conviction his many lies,
Just his party piece to lure the wealthiest females,
His quest for a wife he can crown to add to his many tales,

Marty knows he will inherit his father's land,
As the music of the rock and roll band
Booms, booms as Marty zooms,
To his eternal doom,

He crowns his queen but she gives him a life of gloom,
He buys a small plane to escape to the beauty of the skies,
From a distance his kingdom shimmers and defies
His queen's desert of greed,

That has trapped him into feeling in need,
Of love simple and divine,
Marty flies his plane thinking of past times,
As the freedom and serenity of the skies

Calms him, as he grins happily flying away from the lie,
As he lands his plane on his airstrip,
His happiness and laughter dies!

Boom, boom sound is echoing with Christmas party. This poem gives a clear picture to understand celebration and life around. Happiness and laughter die with lie. A thought provoking expression too.10

Bravo Hazel on another fine write.... It's easy to temporarily escape from a lie but the truth patiently waits on the ground. You wrote this from your gut.....and you nailed it! Great work!

Wow! Very intense feelings come from beneath the surface of this one! Can identify with taking to the skies to escape, flying gives a sense of exuberance and peace. When landing it does seem happiness and laughter die, because you've come back to the reality of your life. Great poem, Hazel! Thank you for sharing.10+++++ RoseAnn
