Florida Vignette Poem by Paul Hartal

Florida Vignette

The shades
Of evening
Are invading
The brocades
Of everglades.

A humid night
Throws
A dark blanket
Over
The sawgrass marshes.

The cypress swamps
Take a deep breath
And meditate
Before
They fall asleep.

Fish
Snails
Frogs and turtles
Hide
In the grass river.

But now
Hungry alligators
Crawl out to hunt
In
The mangrove islets.
