Floating Down The River Poem by Major Elazia

Floating Down The River

I walk in the rains

Feeling the day's tension cool

And the wind blows,

The tree branches sway

As the birds hold on tight, hanging and dancing

In the noise of the storm

Drenched, soaked through and through

Clothes weigh a ton due to rainwater

I trudge in the mud

Taking another step

To another time in a shelter

It is said that rain is a blessing

Water is the oil of life

In the storm I see uprooted tree logs

Floating mass of confusion and desperation

And a dog struggling to break to the surface

The storm water rises

From my feet it touches my hips

And then my tummy and neck are submerged

The raging waters scream in threat

As the water caresses my neck

I see a dead child floating down the river
