Mandolyn ...

five hearts x three

to think i almost loved
you
almost means i shied away
at one point
one time
your distant call, static through
the sky, the dirt beneath my nails
because i dig
until the mud becomes me
covers my sin
my spirit wants the good book
my flesh wants you to look
at me like that
like this
here
press my worn out thumb
give my bones a reason
not to crack
when i change seats-
the window is where i found you
throwing tiny rocks
to think i almost loved you
then loved you afterall

I will not madly deem that power
Of Earth may shrive me of the sin
