Five Elements Poem by Ananta Madhavan

Five Elements

An ancient Hindu sage divided Cosmos into
Five basic elements: Earth, Water, Fire, Air and Space.
I like to think that we humans have personalities
That correspond to these elements.

I believe that I am Water, sometimes contained and still,
Sometimes flowing in a stream or lake or bay. Even a well
Deep down may reflect the sky, an overhanging branch,
A few stars at night.
