Fishermen's Catch Poem by Katrina Lusk

Fishermen's Catch

Fishermen's Catch

I had her hooked,
she was the greatest catch of my life.
I thanked God
for allowing me to reel in my line.
She was the most beautiful thing,
anyone could imagine.
But she had her flaws that nobody could see.
Then one day I was stupid,
and threw her back into the sea.
I knew she was out there still.
I kept watching the waters,
and one day another boat came by.
I had seen this guy,
he came around quite a few times.
He threw in his line
and after a few minutes,
he caught the fish that used to be mine.
It took me along time to catch her,
in the beginning.
Now I don't want to see an ending.
I understand there is something special,
you can see it looking in her eyes.
But what I have come to learn is…
This fishermen appreciates her more,
he looks past her flaws.
He stares past her dark colors,
he gives her everything he has.
He's everything I should've been.
I'm chasing his boat,
trying to get her back.
I'm slowly running out of gas,
I just need to let her go.
I have what was back then,
and he has what is in the present.
This is the catch of a great Fisherman.
