Fiscal-Cliff Analogy Poem by Walterrean Salley

Fiscal-Cliff Analogy

Rating: 5.0

The deficit—alarming—
Exceeds the stratosphere;
We're headed for a fiscal cliff.
A Fiscal CLIFF? Oh, dear!

Uncontrolled splurging
Seems what it's all about
As government spending
Casts shadows of doubt.

Sixteen-trillion dollars
And growing by the day.
To conquer such anomaly,
There must be a way.

Raise taxes, or cut spending?
Which to pursue?
The answer is elusive.
They don't have a clue.

The New-Year deadline
Looms just ahead
As all negotiations
Warily fall dead.

Businesses are worried.
The markets are slow.
For potential fallout,
Morale has been low.

The economy is ailing.
And this "financial riff"
Needs some repairing,
Lest we tumble o'er the cliff.

This is not a national issue, but a global phenomenon! This financial crisis grow into alarming proportions and nobody has a clue as what to be done! A beautiful write! ! A world wide concern is poetically analysed!

Whether the world finance is controlled by a few countries or not, it certainly affects the poor people more than the rich. Cyclical stock market failures, manipulation in currency market and the notorious game with gold are having great impact on our poor economies. Well written poem!

A stark and vivid telling of the state of our union as we teeter on the brink. If we ever needed some statemanship it is now. Thanks for laying it right on the line

Guess we're all teetering on the brink, but there are many who seem to have well lined pockets - usually at the expense of the taxpayer methinks! !

It wasn't so depressing it would be funny, as a Canadian we are not opposed so vehemently to capital regulation as Americans, are institutes are not allowed to blindly give loan applications to anyone who cannot afford to make payments. The biggest folly is allowing financial institutions and creditors unprecedented access to do whatever they want carte blanch. I belief in the free market, but I think it needs to be watched, so that crooks don’t get rich on working man’s watch. Great dialouge

Beautiful way to state the condition of the people of the lower strata.

Nice poem-If states spend more money in productive and peaceful ways....none will fall down the steep cliff. When the rich are responsible and more sharing, and the poor are cared and willing to work...we are on the road to improvement. Nice poem...not too late to wish you a happy and fruitful new year, ...and more poems.
