Fiscal Cliff Poem by Julie A Smith

Fiscal Cliff

The Fiscal cliff
feels like
an injustice
to humanity.

Political gridlock
and bickering
will harm
every American
in the United States.

Taxes
soon to be raised
if 2013 begins
and nothing is done.

How can we come up with more
when many struggle to pay for
housing, gas, food, and
the basics of life
without defaulting on loans
or living on credit.
I know sometimes
I cut healthy food
in order to pay my bills.
I am not the only one.

A fiscal cliff
is a scary prospect,
and another recession
could loom around the corner
if nothing is done.
