First Fallen Tooth Poem by Tushar Ray

First Fallen Tooth

Rating: 5.0

The other day early afternoon
Mya ran to me from our living room
Smiling broadly in tightfitting-teeth
Carrying the just fallen front tooth
In her blood-stained right hand fist:
“Grandpa, look at my first fallen tooth
And no pain anymore”
Then hugged me with a huge smile
I congratulated her taking a close look
One tiny white bit from her lower front
Still shinning boldly in her palm
That I collected immediately
Storing in a small screw cap vial
Saying this is for our “Tooth Fairy” tonight

At once she got very excited
“Am I seeing her tonight? ”
I said “no, when children are asleep she comes,
And she knows from her abode high up
Children losing teeth on planet earth”
When Mya asked, “How could she know that? ”
I began explaining her on
The nature of eyesight and its limit
But we can’t see many things living around us
The tooth-ferry is only one of those
Like the light waves giving pictures on our TV
Surround you and me but we can’t see
Until received by antenna and projected to us
And Tooth-fairy is like that
Then, I told her God stays likewise invisible too
But can be felt in our heart
Growing up you learn regularly more on them

Tooth Fairy sees us herself remaining invisible
So, children losing teeth remain visible to her
Attending ‘em as asleep
With bag-full of dollar gifts
Offering children with tender hugs and kisses
So, Mya got swayed and started planning
She would sleep on floor
With fallen tooth under her pillow tonight
Next room for Tooth-Fairy’s visit

Mya then hurried going to the park with her dad
For flying her newly bought dragon kite
But, I was sure Tooth Fairy’s thoughts
Would occupy part of her mind
Mya came home after sundown
Being somewhat hurt for lacking ample wind
For flying her dragon kite
But the Tooth Fairy soon filled up her mind

Mya took her bubble bath with dreaming eyes
Deeply rapt on tonight’s exciting visit
As to when and how she will come
Imagining on Tooth Fairy’s possible looks
That I lodged in her imaginative mind
And glad to see those in fruition
By stretching her fertile imaginations
While listening closely to her dinner versions
Following her dinner, I kissed her goodnight
Saying “Tooth Fairy will bless your fallen tooth
Keeping with some gift under your pillow
For you to discover in the morning”
And went to my room for further planning

Grandma Mukta and I decided
Leaving $5 note along with Mya’s fallen tooth
Under her pillow while asleep
And was done carefully before we retired
Waiting to see Mya’s emotional reactions
Setting into motion after waking up in morning

And, as expected Mya waked all of us
Much earlier that morning, shouting from bed
“Look, Tooth Fairy gave me 5-dollars”
And this was most exciting for Mya since
Mya for the first time got a $5-note
Feeling extremely rich and proud
Thanking Tooth Fairy again and again
Then handed me the tooth in capped vial
Saying Tooth Ferry blessed my tooth last night
And I said you will be blessed again Mya
When the next tooth falls
But remember, Ferry is watching you closely
You must take good care the rest of your teeth

An excellent depiction of losing a first tooth, Tushar! You described Mya's exuberance fully, I could see her every step of the way as you told of the details with the tooth fairy. Beautiful poem, touching the heart gently, bringing a smile to my face while reading it, Tushar. Great poem, give you 10 -10's if I could. Thank you for sharing it, RoseAnn
