Fireflies Poem by JAMES T. ADAIR

Fireflies

Last night after the rain
I quietly went outside
to get a breath of fresh air
away from the pain
from which I cannot hide
this world so unfair

To my surprise
in the dusky darkness
Silouetted agains the pine
little sparkles struck my eyes
and twinkled in their sparseness
brought me a feeling so sublime

I rushed inside to call you
to share with you this moment
but you didn't seem to notice
and had other things to do
and your only comment
seemed so rude and callused

When I returned to the yard
and tried to find some comfort
the little lights no longer seemed so fine
my life has grown cold and hard
an no longer seems worth the effort
Just feels a lonely waste of time
