Fire And Brimstone Poem by Kris Whelan (1971)

Fire And Brimstone

Of saints and sinners I can say I’ve met a few
Myself I’m somewhere in between but you already knew
Way before the car crash you watched on your TV
I was on your radar for all the world to see
Consumed by fire and brimstone, heading out the door
Consumed by fire and brimstone, rotten to the core
Somebody needs to answer at the dawn of day
I’ve been awake all night but still as stone I lay
They slowdown on the highway just to take a look
A rubberneck’s bonanza of filth and dirt and muck
Stardust and moonshine upon a human scene
A shoebox full of memories lies somewhere in between
Some broken bones and stains of tears
Five hundred miles of autobahn grinding through the gears
I left you in the northlands when love migrated south
Either that or stay and freeze from living hand to mouth
When I was on your radar for all the world to see
A rubberneck’s bonanza and they got it all for free
Consumed by fire and brimstone, heading out the door
Consumed by fire and brimstone, rotten to the core
