Filled With Darkness Poem by Hope Diamond

Filled With Darkness

I can't see
Tears sting my eyes
Branches lacerate my face
Thousands of thoughts run through my mind
My legs throb with discomfort
The darkness engulfs any shred of light
I don’t know where I am going
My heart is beating out of my chest
I can hear him gaining
His footsteps are getting louder
My foot finds the root
Suddenly I hear a scream
I realize it came from me
My mind goes blank
I can feel my heart beat
My body goes numb
I can now feel nothing
My hands shoot out
The ground gets closer
Pain explodes up my arms
Terror grips my every cell
My heart stops
I force my eyes open
My throat releases a blood curdling scream
I see orange everywhere
I see piercing black eyes
They are filled with hate
They are filled with anger
They are filled with violence
They are filled with darkness
They rip into my very soul
I close my eyes
