Fifteen Hundred Miles Poem by Steve Hotze

Fifteen Hundred Miles

Rating: 4.0

I see you there
Lookin my way
And finally I see that bright smile of hope
Belly burns as the butterflies spread their wings to start their flight
A flight to the place they know best
But now I still have to fight
To see that bright smile one more time

The day came for depart from the familiar walls
As the teacher put his books down
Saying farewell and good luck with your future outside of high school
The bittersweet feeling of being free from the burden of rules and regulations
To the everlasting free will of college
And temptation…

Summers are quick and painless
I wish times slowed to the slow drip of water from a faucet
In reality it’s a rushing waterfall
And when we are apart it’s the calm stream the waterfall leads to
Where is my lifejacket?
Where are you? !

Did I wave good bye?
The feeling I got was strong
But you never said the strong words
And I never let u
How could I have been so blind?
Will i ever get the chance to tell?
My true feelings

I’m here at college
Fifteen hundred miles are between us
And all I have left is the deep hole anguish
Knowing it will be so long till that day comes I hear your voice
But now I’ll hum our favorite love song
So we can dance eternally
I knew I belonged in your arms
And with those everlasting memories
I’ll still hold your hand
Over those fifteen hundred miles
