February 23,2017 Poem by Raymond Farrell

February 23,2017

Another day in the books
the sky isn't always blue
but it was today
with a warm sun
for a couple weeks
I've barely ventured out
because of a blizzard
followed by a cold snap
but then the weather
turned unseasonably mild
the snow has melted
leaving only ice
that was underneath it
I went out
cleared it off
the walk and drive
and then proceeded
to make my way
down the hill
to the backyard
clinging to the fence
to avoid slipping and falling
where I proceeded to shovel up
the melting piles of dog dung
and that more or less
sums up my day's toil
how relevant that is
to what is going on
in the wider world
I do not know
or even care.
