Feathered Friends Poem by Natalie Collins

Feathered Friends

Big birds and small birds
Perched on the deck railing
Waiting their turn to eat

Some sit on the edge of the bird feeder
Pecking away at the mound of seed
Others scurry to the floor of the deck
To grab the fallen scattered seed

A source of life in the midst of winter
Dependent on humans who care
Watching the scene through panes of glass
That separate their world from ours
