Fear Poem by Linda Brooks

Fear

I hear words I can’t understand
My heart pounds in my ears
My blood turns to ice
My body is frozen

I keep walking but pay no notice
A distant tug at my hand
My named screamed to move
I began to run

Turning away
Running faster
The hot sun beating down
My feet hit the gravel road

Crunching under my feet
As my greatest fear ebbs away
I slide to a stop and see it still coming
It becomes something I can’t escape

I run to the post office never turning back
Then through the cool green grass
Up the pegs in the tree
Far up from the dogs
