Father's Day Poem by Alicia Mogollón

Father's Day

sitting at a party,
someone my father knows
i wonder

who are these people
and how is it they are so confident
and she's a lawyer

a party for her new deck
encircling a tree
in the front yard

her dad built
for her
colombian father like mine

a tree house, he said,
since i never did it when you were little
and she called him her best friend

and i envied that
that closeness one could have with a father
that i've never had

and i watched
my father
chatting and laughing
and felt
ok with that
