Father Of Taxonomy Poem by Ima Ryma

Father Of Taxonomy

Carl Linnaeus, taxonomist,
Back in the 18th century,
Turned living things into a list,
And named each that he knew to be.
Most got a two word Latin name,
The genus first, the species next.
There still exists Carl's naming game,
With millions named in like context.
Some names make sense and some do not,
Depending on the state of mind
Of the namer who wins the spot
For what and why a name's assigned.

'Homo sapiens' Carl did do.
Tiz Latin for 'wise man' - who knew!
