Fast Asleep Poem by Leonard Champlin

Fast Asleep

She rested in his arms and went to sleep
her halo crooked as she fell asleep
the Angels sang and danced upon her chest
her long hard day would give her comfort, rest.

She wrapped her arms around him, held him tight
she held him close, yet closer through the night
and when her fluttered eyes would wake and blink
she'd kiss his lips, return to sleep and think.

Within her dream she'd hope 'could this be love? '
the answer known from only up above
but she would trust she'd get an answer soon
when stars were bright amidst a sparkling moon.

'If this was love? ', she heard an Angel say
'If this IS love, it will not go away.'
dreams do come true as dreamers always say
her dream came true, it came to here today.

She woke again to see and kiss his face
and know that no one now would take his place
and now she needs to tell him how she feels
so he can know that dreamers dreams are real.
