Far Away From Home Poem by Anil Kumar Panda

Far Away From Home

Rating: 5.0

I can’t go away from here-
This forest that extends
To the horizon its lovely green;
Here I can walk with natures
Bounty for miles and miles
That, in cities I have never seen;

Buds burst at the dawn
And spray fragrance from
Tree tops to bed of raw leaves
Thick fronds brush aside
Annoying creepers that hold
Flies and moths like giant hives

The blue dives to meet
The green far away to where
Sight can’t travel in the gloaming
Liquid diamonds get crushed
Under my feet as I come out to
Watch the sea waving and foaming

I lay on the wet sands
And hear the sounds of waves
Beating against high rocks and recede
A lone star appears silently
Atop the undulating hill before
Starting its march with its doting creed

Sweet ecstasy grips me
As I watch under the veil of cloud
The moon feeling shy as virgin lass
The owl gives a hoot aloud
When a meteor rushes down
And the earth dazzles with the flash

In the vast theatre of His
Living and nonliving as casts
Every moment a drama is being played
I won’t like to miss them
Wish to remain forever there
With a dark screen above as my shed
