Family Comes First, Part 2 Poem by Mustafa Marconi

Family Comes First, Part 2

Kari begged for his mercy
Quivering uncontrollably she cried out
Hoping somebody, anybody should stumble upon them
His eyes filled with rage
Oblivious to the pandemonium he was creating
He lifted his gun and muttered
“Family comes first”
It’s been ten years since he vowed
To follow in his daddy’s footsteps
Laying there in his casket
Surrounded by all of his homies
Each one living out the doctrine
“Family comes first”
His mother dared to deny him
An opportunity to continue to propagate
The cancerous philosophies
Of such a destructive cycle
Forcing him to find refuge and camaraderie
In the arms of his father’s assassins
Constantly reiterating
“Family comes first”
Initiation presented complications
Three frighten witnesses
Wrong place at the wrong time
Lying next to her two friends headless cadavers
Kari begged for his mercy
Pacing back and forth
His heart filled with fear
He approaches the windows
And yell out towards the spot lights
“Family comes first”
In a flash the room collapses
Commands are shouted
Flickers of light precede
The Angel of death
In the aftermath the second funeral in a decade
In the year of the ox
A grieving widow lays her child to rest
Inscribed on his casket his final words
“Family comes first”
