Fallen Men Poem by Annia Rosa

Fallen Men

That man
If he could, he would cry
But he does not cry
He does not smile
He does not weep
He does not cheer
He simply steps

And that man
That man
He falls—
And with that fall
They both fall
They both crash
They both die

The man gets up and walks
And with eyes that dare not blink
He trembles
He walks
He runs
He struggles through the crowd
And he kneels
And he weeps

That man who fell
He does not stand
He does not crawl
He does not see
His eyes, they close
His hair is wet
His cheeks, are they?

The man would cry
But he cannot
For he has fallen
Out of shock
The man would shout
And this he does
For that man cannot

They lift that man away
And the man shouts his grief
Struggling out of the crowd
Like swimming against a current
And he drowns
Oh he drowns

Is this not reality?
Is this just some faded dream?
But no—
That man is asleep
And the man is awake
And their paths,
Never again to intersect
