Faith: Improvisation 03 20 05

Cannonball sings with blues in hand Coltrane plays
Good news about a rutting of the muse of self-worth
In favorite things -life beholds all faith in the rhythm section
Why in jazz love so like blues, so chord-less and free,
To air out the rhyme and chants repeat a gospel so fortunately

How could life’s play on the African rhythms of soul soil
In cotton fields of troubadours, in a South land of feudal
Lords a way of life remains just as heard the wind’s refrain
Freedom feels rhyme lines drawn to a symmetry to gusts
Of miracle common senses, the faith’s desire the love’s trust

The music of the divine in the singing of the choir
Faithful choir’s chanting behind the triplet wave
Charlie Parker’s whimsical notions of thirty seconds of verse
Cannonball’s navigating blues, love ahead to share forsakes
Coltrane’s relentless extravagating all the notes and takes

Way out to hubs gathering beyond the lighted sky of internet
Miles’ cornet sublimely nourishing that invisible high the flight
To realms of nonsense where chord-less melodies extol love and
Charity take care to gather the sounds on Dewey Square down to
The business of knowing The Word experienced everywhere.
