Fairytales Poem by Tiff Murphy

Fairytales

The fragrance of lilies surrounds me when I whisper your name,
Deep fields of greens, purples and pinks,
Reminds me of you,
Envious of not being with you,
Passionate when you're near,
The promise of your unending love,
The wind lifts a strand of hair,
Blowing it from my face,
As I imagine your hand doing the same,
The grass tickles my neck,
Just as your kisses did in the past,
The clouds chase each other across the sky,
Always a step behind the first,
Like how I've tried to catch you to hold on tight,
The bird's playful banter is music to my ears,
Like your voice debating with mine,
Butterfly's fluttering along,
It's as beautiful as the colors of your eyes,
The ones I could have looked into forever if you would have left me,
The silence of lost promises,
Like the ones that escaped your lips,
I close my eyes against the blue hazel sky,
The ghost of you appears killing me a little more inside,
I remember every touch, kiss and word,
I remember that you left me here,
Eyes snap open trying to stop the pain,
You caught me at my weakness and I'm so ashamed,
How I left you in just so that you could tear me down,
We were supposed to build onto each other,
Build our love so strong that nothing could knock it down,
It was ludicrous to not realize that it could come undone by our own doing,
I stopped showing you what you needed to see,
Then you found someone who wasn't me,
Not every fairy tale has happy endings,
Sometimes they only have happy beginnings.
