Eyelids Half Closed Poem by Juan Olivarez

Eyelids Half Closed

Lying on my back, I've reached for the sky,
Dreaming that my hands could reach so high.
With my eyelids half closed, reaching for the stars,
Wishing a light year, wasn't that far.

Lying on my back, I've listened at night,
to the wind in the trees and imagined it's might.
With my eyelids half closed, and ears finely tuned,
Lying underneath that round silver moon.

Lying on my back, I've smelled the pine trees,
As their scent came to me, carried on the breeze.
With my eyelids half closed, wanting to dream,
Lying underneath, the full moons silver beams.

Lying on my back with nary a care,
Feeling the wind blowing softly through my hair.
With my eyelids half closed, and sporting a smile,
The best times I had, were when I was a child.
