Eye's Folly Poem by Leslie Alexis

Eye's Folly

Seldom has my heart been weary
But today stands contrary
As it faces love’s adversary

Part of me wants to play the field
But in love the heart is ceiled
And is shocked at what is revealed

That I, am no wiser a man
Than Solomon, though I know love’s span
Parts of me do not follow the plan

My eyes disobey their master
And seek to give the end of a blaster
A moment of high that ensures disaster

We be. Though it may sound absurd
I will gladly shut off their blood
To not have my lover’s eyes flood,

But I cannot be without sight of she
Who loves me miraculously,
So though the eyes may look, feet flee,

And never am I weary of things missed;
Out of sight the lust does not persist
Contrary to the way our love exists

I love my Love, absence is how I can tell,
She does not have me under eye’s spell
Deep down within my heart she dwells

To betray her would tear me apart
And doctors would have to check my heart
Life, blood, the beat, will have to depart

Before my lips would kiss another
The way of the eyes I will smother;
Let other women be, My LOVE I rather…
