Explorations: Iii Poem by indira babbellapati

Explorations: Iii

The heart summoned me
At an impromptu moment
And subjected me to
Rapid-fire questions
That left me utterly
Defenceless!

Thus began the interrogation:

'Why do you lie to yourself? '

I simply stared silently
In response...

'Why do you make these
Desperate attempts
To escape from the
Pervading reality? '

I had no answer!

I lowered my eyes
I'm too proud to admit
That that's what
Sustains me...

The stubborn heart
Was least affected
By my silence and went on...

'Why do you pretend
To be walking on a path
Of petals when in reality
You nurse your thorn-pricked feet? '

I looked at my feet
In open guilt...

Ever since
I stand defenceless
Facing the trial
In camera!

The upright heart
Refuses to pronounce me
'NOT GUILTY! '

COMMENTS OF THE POEM

Why is the poem not titled 'Not Guilty'? Calling Explorations I, II, etc take away something. I think a title gives direction to the reader.
