Expectation Poem by crystal ruth

Expectation

From time and time again
you proceed to state
how you expect more from me,
how you expect me to reach
such high expectations,
and how you know that I have
that potential to do so.

Yet, I don't know how or why
you proceed to tell me.
Because when I look at myself
I see nothing but a failure.
Absolutely nothing but a failure.

(pause)

Because, you can give me a day,
you can give me a week,
or perhaps give me a month,
and I'll study until my brain hurts.
But, Like I have before in the past
I will just end up failing you
and your expectation of me.

So, why do you keep telling me that I can
when all I seem to do is fail you
and your greatest expectations?

Each test you pass. Unexpectedly, you have surpassed. Is a testament to one simple fact. You've arrived..... iip
