Excerpts From Persian Poetry Poem by Yasmin Khan

Excerpts From Persian Poetry

The day the stallion of time was tamed and trained
Venus and Jupiter were adorned and stained
This life for us was allotted and ordained
This was not our will; were thus chained and restrained.

Omar Khayyam

When the canary made its way to the field
Found the rose and wine smiling, kneeled,
In tongues its message in my ear it thus reeled
Hark, no moment in time did twice yield.

Omar Khayyam

But I, tired and tried with my restless soul–
In the rutted path towards my dreams, I stroll!
Poetry is my Beloved, poetry is my Sole Lover;
to sometime unite with it, I hover and hover!

Forough Farrokhzad (1936 – 1967) : Desolate House
