Everything You Have Poem by David Harris

Everything You Have

In a world of sad faces,
you will often find one with a smile
and you wonder why they are smiling
when you know they do not have a lot.
Therefore, you ask them
why they wear a smile
when you have less than I do.
They turn and say,
I have little food,
but I am willing to share it
with everyone who has none.
I have a roof over my head,
there are many who have not.
I am at peace with myself,
not many can say that.
I may not have many friends
I can readily rely on,
but they all know I am
there to always be called upon.
I am living, breathing God’s good air.
What more do I need?
Therefore, I smile for everything I have,
for there are a lot worse off than me.
The real secret is you see,
be at peace with yourself
and enjoy everything you have.
