Everything Ends Poem by Windsor Guadalupe Jr

Everything Ends

</>Even the rain subsides
When you thought it wouldn’t,
The torturous, searing rain
Parallel to each other,
Rummaging onto the Earth,
Tearing the flesh – scathing your skin,
Disintegrating bones, drowning the soul,
Even these reach their conclusion.
-
Even skyscrapers that literally
Scrape the sky, which make the firmaments
Appear crooked in one’s eye,
They go down one by one,
The debris, they wear off
Like when one swears eternal love,
When eternal meant only fair-tides
And calm weathers.
-
Even the long wait by a station –
It ends, when the blare of the last train home
Passes by one’s eye, like an anticipated ghost
During the dark of the night, when the train doors
Open, where the huddled masses appear inside
With worn out faces from work, from life,
They reach their homes and slumber,
The train will soon be parked off – somewhere far away
Where there’d be no passers-by to marvel
At the sad portrait of the morosely sleeping train.
-
Even the nights end,
When you hear the howling of the canines,
When you hear the felines rumbling atop the rooftops,
When you hear the latent noise created by the
Somber bats at night, and when somnolence
Has finally reached your eyes, and closed
Them like doors – you will sleep, and you will dream
Haughtily or timidly – You will,
And with that sleep, the night has ended.
-
Even the days end,
When you hear the chortle of the children playing,
When you hear the automobiles prowling, roaring arrogantly,
When you hear the doors open, and thump upon the borders,
And when you hear her voice saying, “I still love you in the morning.”
These will end – because you will be exhausted
From the day’s toil, you will be chagrined by the fading
Of words from her lips, from the slowly dying laughs
Of the children outside, and the diminishing light of the Sun
That signals the arrival of the night, everything will end
Not because fate dictated so, but because, everything just ends.
