Every Star Tells Its Own Lie Poem by Shalom Freedman

Every Star Tells Its Own Lie

EVERY STAR TELLS ITS OWN LIE

Every star tells its own lie.
We see them in the sky
And dream of them
As distant lights
Wondrous other words,
Destinations we may one day
Arrive at.

Stars are fires
Gases and heat
Unbearable darkness and cold
Nothing human.

We look up and dream
But when we truly measure to see
We know
How dark the heavens are
And how deeply distant forever
From what we long to be.
